CONSENT TO PARTICIPATE IN HUMAN RESEARCH PROJECT
Mary Baldwin College
Attitudes Towards Women in Positions of Authority
Elizabeth Van Doren (908-268-7047)
You have been asked to participate in a short study on the attitudes towards women in positions of authority. The purpose of the study, terms of your participation, as well as any expected risks and benefits, must be fully explained to you before you sign this form and give your consent to participate. This study will contain two parts. The first part is a short demographic survey, and the second part consists of an assessment of your attitudes about gender and authority. There are no direct benefits to you for participating in this study. However, if you are a Mary Baldwin College student currently enrolled in a Psychology course, you may earn a 1/2 point of extra credit to be applied to a Psychology course of your choosing. At no point in the study is deception being used, and no information that can be used to identify you will be collected, unless you provide your name for extra credit purposes. However, this information will be collected separately from your responses to the study by the online participant pool coordinator (Dr. Chandra Mason) who will notify your professor of your participation; the primary investigator will not have access to this information. The participant pool coordinator and your professor will keep this information confidential. Thus, one potential risk is that your participation (but not your actual responses) would be known to your professor. There are no other foreseeable risks of participating. Participation in this study is entirely voluntary. You may refuse to participate or may withdraw from participation at any time without penalty. The investigator may withdraw you from participation at her discretion.
If, at anytime, you have questions regarding this research or your participation in it, you should contact the researcher who must answer your questions. If, at anytime, you have comments regarding the conduct of this research or if you wish to discuss your rights as a research participant, you may contact the primary investigator, Elizabeth Van Doren (908.268.7047 or email@example.com) or her faculty advisor, Dr. Chandra Mason (firstname.lastname@example.org).
You may print out a copy of this consent form to keep.
